AirDrop simplifies the wireless transfer of files, photos, and videos between iPhone and Mac. It also makes it easy to share with friends and family who own Apple devices and are nearby. AirDrop creates a WiFi network between two Apple devices via Bluetooth.

To take advantage of AirDrop, you need two Apple devices within Bluetooth range, typically around 30 feet, according to Apple. Both devices must have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled and AirDrop activated. Here’s a guide to setting up AirDrop and using it to transfer files between iPhone and Mac and vice versa.

How to enable AirDrop on iPhone

– Swipe down from the top right corner of the screen to access the Control Center if you have an iPhone X or later. On older iPhone models, swipe up from the bottom of the screen.

– Press and hold the Wi-Fi button in the upper left corner of the control center. This button appears as three curved lines in a blue circle.

– With the Wi-Fi button pressed, tap “AirDrop” from the options that appear.

– Choose who can send files to your device by choosing either “Contacts only” or “Everyone”.

“Contacts Only” limits file transfer to people in your contact list, while “Everyone” allows any Apple device within range to send files to your device.

You can turn off AirDrop at any time by tapping “Turn off receiving”.

How to enable AirDrop on Mac

– Right-click anywhere on the Mac desktop. Alternatively, open a Finder window on your Mac.

– Then select Go from the Apple menu bar. This is shown at the top of the screen.

– Next, select AirDrop. You can also skip the previous step by pressing the Command + Shift + R keys on your keyboard at the same time.

– Then select Allow to be found. This will be shown at the bottom of the pop-up window.

Finally, select the recipients of the files transferred to your device. The only files you get are the files of the contacts in your list if you select the Contacts Only option. If you select “All”, files can be AirDropped to your device from any nearby Apple device. By selecting Receive off, you can stop AirDrop at any time.

How to connect iPhone to Mac via AirDrop

– Open the file you want with AirDrop from iPhone. For example, if you want to share a photo, open the Photos or Camera app.

– Then press the Share button. This is a box-shaped icon with an arrow pointing up. Depending on what you’re trying to share, you’ll see this icon in different parts of your screen. It’s also accessible by tapping and holding text, images, and other content.

– Next, tap on the AirDrop icon. This will appear in the row next to other applications.

– Then select the device to which you want to send the files. If the recipient is in your contact list, their name and photo will appear next to their device. Otherwise, you’ll just see a gray circle with the owner’s initials underneath.

– Finally, the files are transferred to the Downloads folder on the Mac.
